Set up own English school? (2 posts)

I am sure many long term residents have set up their own English school rather than seeking full time employment. I know of some ex Nova teachers who did try but gave up because of the extra overhead and expenses . Is it worth attempting? Once you hire more teachers then I know it gets complicated with health insurance etc. Appreciate any words of wisfdom.

It does get complicated when you are renting a premisis, paying the commercial keymoney (though you can find an agent to reduce this fee nowadays). Then if you hire staff you need to provide health insurance. Gaigins used to get around this by paying a commercial health insurance in HongKong for like $200/year but that wont cut it anymore, you need to cover your staff with Japanese insurance. You will need an accountant also. Best to keep to a one man show and just use a rental office by the day.
