There has been no problem found with the monitoring post data, Units 1-6 main plant parameters, accumulated water transfer, water treatment facility and other facilities. Currently, no injury has been reported due to the earthquake.

The maximum acceleration observed in the power station was 26.2 Gal (horizontal direction) at the foundation ground in Unit 6 Reactor Building.

We will continue investigating the conditions of the equipments/facilities in the power station.

The US Geological Survey has reported the quake to be a magnitude of 7.4 at a depth of 33 kilometres, 333km from Sendai.

A warning for a one-metre tsunami was issued for the coast of Miyagi prefecture in north-eastern Japan.

People are being urged to move to higher ground.

Initial reports put the epicentre near to that of the March 11, 2011 quake that sparked a devastating tsunami.

TEPCO announced today that the damages payments for the Fukushima nuclear catastrophe will surpass 10 trillion yen over the next two years, double the previous 5 trillion yen estimate. TEPCO also said that decontamination costs will also rise significantly, and asked the government for even more taxpayer handouts to cover the costs. This will be the second time the estimates have been revised upwards in six months.
