Raising Children in Japan: 5 months, 1 week agoDefinately not good, even if minute levels of cesium. “Cesium-137 that enters the body is distributed throughout the soft tissues, especially in muscle…. Radiation is more dangerous for infants because their cells are dividing more rapidly and radiation-damaged RNA may be carried in more generations of cells, . The risk for children depends on the [...]

Raising Children in Japan: 1 year, 1 month agoNeko, it depends on the age and sensitivities of the individual child. Our youngest son is 11 years old and we did not shield him from the horrific video footage of the tsunami destruction. Also, here in Tokyo he did experience the original quakes and the aftershocks. A while later, I asked him if there [...]

Raising Children in Japan: 1 year, 1 month agoI am concerned of the effect of all the news of the disaster on young children. Luckily my child is too young to know whats going on but the effect longterm on young children is a concern.
I found an article on the subject in the Japan times.

Raising Children in Japan: 1 year, 2 months agoThere is no confusion about Dad saying “apple” and Mom saying “ringo”. Baby will simply understand that you use one word with Dad and the other word with Mom. Nothing wrong with that. Nothing wrong with both parents speaking both languages either. No child will grow up naturally bilingual unless there is a social need [...]

Raising Children in Japan: 1 year, 2 months agoYes, I do. Two. If you give them enough interesting input from both languages (I include parent time in that
) they will do fine. No problems wil arise as long as your child needs and wants to talk to each parent. If you both start talking to your child in Japanese and neglect [...] -

Raising Children in Japan: 1 year, 2 months agoDepends how much exposure your child gets to each parent. If you both have equal interaction time and content, your child will not know that they are learning two languages but will simply learn to speak to each parent differently.

Raising Children in Japan: 1 year, 2 months agoAnyone have good ideas on the best method of teaching Eng/Japanese to a baby? His Australian dad speaks English and I only try to speak in Japanese. I have read this method may actually delay language skills.
