New Sensors

April 19, 2011 in Uncategorized

Resident environmental (mad) scientist Allan Lind has purchased some new (surplus) sensors to take some more readings around Minato-ku.   The first is a supply of ex Russian military stock SI22G tubes that are over 20cm long and very sensitive to gamma radiation.  These tubes will be great for increased background radiation detection.

 Gamma Sensitivity Co60 (cps/mR/hr) 75!
Maximum Length (mm) 220
Maximum Diameter (mm) 19

The Pancake sensor !

We are also excited about another new and hard to find pancake sensor that has a very large detecting aperture. The pancake sensor is perfect for detecting alpha and beta particles.

Sensitiv. to Gamma Radiation, Pulses/μR 200
Efficiency to Beta-Radiation 90Sr, % 65
Window Area, cm2 15

Look forward to some interesting experiments with this sensor!
